Purpose: Critical reflection has been found to be effective in improving communication abilities and confidence. The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of novice nurses participating in a work-based critical reflection program. Methods: Focus group interviews were used to collect data. Data of 24 participants who completed a critical reflection program in a tertiary general hospital were collected. Results: Four themes were derived from this study, as follows: “Being able to think while working”, “Experience - learning - transition to new experience”, “Becoming a channel of communication”, “Being able to solve problems”. Results showed that critical reflection training was effective in enhancing critical thinking and communication abilities. It was helpful in participants' adaptation to nursing field. Conclusion: A critical reflection program needs to be considered an essential tool for novice nurses who need to adjust to the clinical environment.
