Nurses' Perception on Adopting the Internet-of-Things: A Focus Group Interview Study

초록/요약

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore nurses' perception of adopting the Internet-of-Things (IoT) for nursing care. Methods: For this focus group interview study, nurses from a general hospital in Seoul were recruited through snowball sampling and convenience sampling techniques. A total of 21 nurses were allocated into four interview groups. Focus group interviews were conducted from November 25, 2019, to November 30, 2019. A conventional data analysis method was used to extract the themes. Results: The three themes derived from the focus group interviews were: expectation for efficient nursing care, anxiety about the incompleteness of information transfer, and uncertainty about the hospital's acceptance of IoT. Conclusion: The findings of this study contributed to the understanding of nurses' perception on adopting IoT. To maximize the efficiency of nursing care with IoT, stability and accuracy of the technology should be guaranteed. Hospital-level support in adopting IoT into nursing care and countermeasures against possible ethical problems are also necessary.
