WITH WHAT SHALL I COME BEFORE THE LORD? AN ANALYSIS OF MICAH 6:6-8 IN OLD TESTAMENT ETHICAL PERSPECTIVE

초록/요약

This thesis attempts to examine the explicit opinion about true worship through the use of the Temple Entrance Liturgy in Micah 6:6-8. The first chapter deals with the issues and the significance of the present study. Chapter two presents the notion of the three elements in the Temple Entrance Liturgy. Chapter three examines previous interpretations of Micah 6:6-8. Chapter four includes an exegetical analysis in which the text is examined thoroughly and carefully. Chapter five explores the ethical implications of God’s requirements for true worship. The LORD does not require sacrifice without moral duties, rather He requires an internal conversion and a proper attitude of spirit. The outward and ceremonial forms of religion should reflect an inward moral relationship with God. This study shows that true worship reflects the Mosaic covenant that can be applied to the ethical religion in terms of “justice,” “loyalty,” and “walking humbly with God” as a covenant responsibility. Jesus summarizes the Mosaic Law in a similar model: to love God and to love neighbor (Matt. 22:37-40). This study also suggests ways to uplift the concept of worship beyond superficiality to an innermost commitment and faithfulness toward the law of God and toward others, which is to love God and to love our neighbor.
