Design and Comparison between 2MW Class RFPM and AFPM for Wind Turbine

초록/요약

Most of the permanent magnet generator type for wind turbine as MW-class applications is RFPM(Radial Flux Permanent Magnet) type. In this study, it is concluded that MW-class AFPM(Axial Flux Permanent Magnet) type generator has its own characteristics which are compactness in volume, cost reduction especially in magnet portion, and lower efficiency than RFPM type. To compare AFPM with RFPM, a 2MW Hyundai Rotem Direct-drive RFPM type generator is redesigned as a 2MW AFPM machine. A newly designed 2MW AFPM machine has the shape of double-sided stator and single rotor which is called AFIPM(Axial Flux Interior Permanent Magnet) topology. FEM[Ansys] simulation is conducted based on Quasi-3D method to perform electromagnetic and thermal analysis.
