A Study of Temperature and Pressure Effect on Powder Densification Processes: Pressureless Sintering, Gas Pressure Sintering, & Hot Isostatic Pressing

초록/요약

Pressure-assisted sintering became a promising technology because of its ability to produce full density products. Gas pressure sintering (GPS) and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) were studied along with pressureless sintering. Stainless steel and uranium dioxide were selected as research material. Since compaction result affects densification process, compaction experiment and simulation were studied additionally. Pressureless sintering adopted diffusional creep model. And because pressure applied in GPS is relatively small, GPS also adopted the same model as pressureless sintering. On the other hand, HIP uses high pressure (>100 MPa), so power-law creep model was applied. Each study of densification process contains theoretical study, experiment, and simulation. In theoretical study, constitutive model was established and experiments were conducted with different conditions. And simulation was developed by using predefined constitutive model and experimental results.
