The lecturer talks about the foundation of the European Union that its initiative was to prevent future wars. It is significant that it was a new and different way of dealing with each other as well as to share resources, ideas, and their future. Its goals are peace and prosperity and as a result, there is no existent war literally in Europe, although integration does not guarantee peace, like Yugoslavia. The lecturer talks about how this all came about, and why the EU was so successful, leading onto a discussion which he finds most necessary.
