Perception of Safety and Life Satisfaction among Young Female Single-Person Households

초록/요약

This research examines perception of personal and community safety and life satisfaction among young female single-person households (FSHs). Safety concerns are critical to young FSHs but we do not fully understand how perception of safety is linked to life satisfaction for young FSHs. Statistical analyses found that FSHs’ level of life satisfaction was comparable to that of men living alone and lower than that of women living with others. However, FSHs had significantly more negative perception of safety compared to both male single-person households and female multi-person households. Personal safety was associated with life satisfaction of male single-person households while community safety mattered for FSHs. Policy implications of the results are discussed.
