Validation of NEO-Personality Assessment System(NEO-PAS) for Adults Based on Five Fator Model: A Study on University Students

This study examined the reliability and validity of the NEO-Personality Assessment System (NEO-PAS) for Adults. To do this, 1,761 university students completed the NEO-PAS. The results confirmed acceptable internal consistency and confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the five-factor model fit the data well. In addition, we analyzed the correlation between the NEO-PAS and other personality tests composed of concepts related to NEO-PAS. The reliability coefficient was in the range of .84-.93, supporting the reliability of the NEO-PAS. Although the fit of the entire model was low, the fit of the sub-factor model was good. Also through correlations with other tests, criterion-related validity of the NEO-PAS was also supported. Finally, we discussed the implications, limitations and suggestions for follow-up research.

본 연구는 성격 5요인 이론을 기반으로 안현의와 안창규(2017)가 개발한 NEO 성격검사 성인용의 신뢰도 및 타당도를 검토하여 검사의 측정학적 타당성을 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기 지역에 거주하는 남, 녀 대학생 1761명을 대상으로 NEO 성격검사 성인용을 실시하여 검사의 내적 합치도를 확인하였고 확인적 요인분석을 통해 5요인 모델 의 적합도를 살펴보았다. 다음으로 준거 타당도를 측정하기 위해 남, 녀 대학생 358명을 대상으로 NEO 성격검사 성인용 및 유사한 구성 개념을 가진 성격검사들 간의 상관 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 검사의 하위 요인별 신뢰도 계수는 .84-.93 범위에 속해 있어 검사 문항이 신뢰롭게 구성되어 있는 것을 확인하였으며, 확인적 요인분석 결과 전체 모델의 적합도는 낮은 수준이나 하위 5요인의 적합도는 양호한 수준인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 기존의 성격검사와의 상관관계를 확인함으로써 NEO 성격검사 성인용의 준거 타당도 역시 확보하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구에서 NEO 성격검사 성인용의 모델 적합도가 낮은 원인과 성격 측정 방법에 대한 한계점 및 추후 연구에 대해 논의하였다.
