영화 벨과 세바스티앵에 나타난 생태의식 연구송 태 현 요약: 본 연구는 바니에 감독의 첫 극영화 작품인 벨과 세바스티앵을 생태 윤리적 시각에서 연구함으로써 그의 작품 속에 생태의식이 어떻게 드러나 있는지 고찰한다. 이 영화에서 두드러진 생태론적 요소는 생명체에 대한 존중이다. 본 연구는 우선, 이 영화가 지닌 생명체에 대한 존중 의식이 고통받는 ‘타자’에 대한 환대와 책임 윤리로 연결됨을 지적한다. 이를 위해 본고에서 레비나스의 윤리 관점에서 이 영화를 분석한다. 이어서 그 ‘타자’가 인간뿐 아니라 타 생명체를 포함하는 개념임을 지적하며, 이 영화에서 고통받는 인간과 동물을 작중 인물들이 어떻게 환대하고 책임 윤리를 어떻게 구현하고 있는지 고찰한다. 이를 위해 슈바이처가 발전시킨 ‘생에 대한 경외’ 윤리의 관점에서 분석한다. 이 연구를 통해 고통받는 타자에 대한 환대와 책임 윤리가 이 영화에서 인간과 동물 모두에게 적용됨을 확인할 수 있다. 그리고 타인의 환대를 받은 작중 인물들은 자신이 받은 환대를 타자에게 베풂으로써 고통받는 타자에 대한 환대와 책임 윤리가 이 영화에서 선순환되고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 핵심어: 벨과 세바스티앵, 니콜라 바이에, 생태의식, 환대, 책임 윤리 □ 접수일: 2020년 10월 10일, 수정일: 2020년 10월 22일, 게재확정일: 2020년 10월 28일＊ 이 논문은 2018년 대한민국 교육부와 한국연구재단의 지원을 받아 수행된 연구임(NRF-2018S1A5B8069796). ** 이화여자대학교 부교수(Professor, Ewha Womans Univ., Email: solte@ewha.ac.kr)

A Study on the Ecological Consciousnessin the Film Belle et Sébastien*Taehyeon Song** Abstract: This study examines how ecological consciousness is revealed in his work by studying Varnier’s first dramatic film, Bell and Sebastian, from an ecological and ethical perspective. The outstanding ecological element in the film is respect for life. First of all, this study points out that the film’s sense of respect for life is linked to hospitality and responsibility ethics for the “other” suffering. To that end, the film is analyzed in this paper from the point of view of Levinas’ ethics. This study then points out that “the other” is a concept that includes not only humans but also other creatures, and examines how the characters in the film treat and embody the responsibility ethics. To this end, the analysis is made from the perspective of the “Reverence for life” ethics developed by Schweitzer. The study confirms that the hospitality and responsibility ethic for the suffering “other” is applied to both humans and animals in the film. And the characters who are welcomed by others give their hospitality to others. This confirms the virtuous circle of hospitality and responsibility for the suffering other in the film.
