초록/요약
본 연구에서는 기호를 중심으로 수학적 문제를 해결하는 학생들의 기호 의미 이해와 표현은 어떤 특성이 있는지 알아보기 위하여 경기도 소재 M중학교 1학년 학생 2명을 대상으로 사례연구를 실시하였다. 학생들의 문제해결 과정에서 기호 의미와 표현의 특성을 해석화와 기호화의 과정을 통해서 분석하였다. 연구 결과 학생들은 대상체를 선택하여 기호쓰기를 할 때 문제에 주어진 기호를 그대로 쓰지 않고 기호화하여 표현할 수 있었고, 대상체를 해석할 때 한 개 이상의 해석체와 표현체를 통해 다양한 해석화와 기호화에 의해 기호 의미와 표현을 연결시켜 나가는 것으로 나타났다. 학생들의 기호의 의미와 표현은 수학적 개념과 연결되고 논리적 추론에 의해 해석화 및 기호화를 할 때 성공적인 문제해결로 나타났고, 규약적 기호를 충분히 이해하지 못할 때 기호화에서 오류가 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학교 현장에서의 수학적 기호 지도에 대한 시사점을 도출하였다.

This study was conducted to unveil if students that solve mathematical problems using signs shared specific traits by examining two first year students from Gyeongi Province M Middle School as participants of the case study. The study analyzed students’ understanding and representation of sign via interpretation, representamen, and symbolizing in the students’ problem-solving process. From the study, students were able to symbolize and express the signs when they chose an object and wrote signs, in which they utilized symbolization, intersect symbolic expressions and meanings by using variant interpretant and representamen when interpreting an object. The students’ understanding and representation about the meaning of signs interlinked with mathematical concept, and an error occurred in symbolizing when one did not fully understand the mathematical sign. Based on these findings, implications regarding teaching and learning method of math class were extracted.
