A Study of the Effect of Supervisors’ Ethical Leadership on Secretaries’ Work Engagement: Mediating Effect of Psychological Ownership

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship among supervisors’ ethical leadership, secretaries’ psychological ownership and work engagement. It was examined whether psychological ownership has a mediating effect on ethical leadership and work engagement. To achieve the above research objectives, a survey was conducted among 220 secretaries who have more than 2 years of work experience. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, a supervisor’s ethical leadership has significant influence on a secretary’s psychological ownership. Second, a supervisor’s ethical leadership has significant influence on a secretary’s work engagement. Third, a secretary’s psychological ownership has significant influence on work engagement. Fourth, a secretary’s psychological ownership partially mediated the relationship between supervisor’s ethical leadership and work engagement. This study is meaningful in that it confirmed the importance of the CEO’s ethical leadership for creating synergy between secretaries and supervisors with respect to work engagement.
