반동성애 운동을 주도하는 보수 개신교는 ‘이웃 사랑의 명령’을 이성애주의적이고 가부장적인 관점에서 해석하며 이웃의 범위 안에서 오랫동안 배제되고 차별받아온 성 소수자에 대한 보수적 입장을 고수한다. 본 연구는 성 소수자에 대한 보수 개신교의 배타적 태도가 왜 이웃 사랑의 복음에 위배되는지를 분석하기 위해 성 소수자 혐오에 나타나는 특성을 네 가지로 분류하여 분석한다. 타자의 고유한 존재 방식에 대한 부정하는 경우, 주체의 주권을 포기하지 않으면서 타자에게 관용을 시혜적으로 베푸는 경우, 개인의 인권보다 사회 질서의 안정을 우선하는 경우, 그리고 증오라는 심리적 감정과 역겨움이라는 신체적 반응을 연동하여 작동시키는 경우로 나누어 분석하였다. 결론적으로 한국 개신교의 반동성애 운동이 반공산주의와 교권주의와 어떻게 합세하고 있는지를 지적하며 건강한 지성과 환대의 이웃 사랑의 정신 위에 개신교의 개혁을 요청하고자 했다.

Conservative Protestant churches, which take the lead in the anti-sexual movement, interpret the command of brotherly love from heterosexual and patriarchal perspectives, and hold on to their conservative stance toward sexual minority people who have long been excluded from the scope of neighbors and thus discriminated against. To analyze why their exclusive attitudes toward sexual minorities go against the gospel of brotherly love, this study divided characteristics of their hate of sexual minorities into four cases: i) where they deny the others’ unique way of being, ii) where they have attitudes of dispensing generosity toward the others without giving up the sovereignty of the main agent, iii) where they give priority to the stability of social order over the human rights of individuals, and iv) where they connect a psychological feeling of hatred and a physical reaction of disgust to be at work together. In conclusion, while pointing out the way the anti-homosexual movement of Korean Protestantism joins forces with anti-Communism and clericalism, this study calls for the reform of Protestant churches based on healthy intelligence and the spirit of brotherly love with hospitality.
