본 연구의 목적은 가정외보호 청소년의 부정적 사건 경험이 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향을 확인하고 위험요인인 사회적 위축과 보호 요인인 자아존중감의 매개 효과를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해 ｢한국가정외보호아동패널｣의 1차년도 패널데이터를 활용하였으며, 연구대상은 양육시설, 그룹홈, 가정위탁에서 생활하는 초등학교 5, 6학년 청소년 494명 중 불성실한 응답을 제외한 총 479명이다. SPSS 22.0을 사용하여 빈도분석, 기술통계 분석, 상관관계 분석을 실시하였으며, AMOS 26.0을 사용하여 경로분석을 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가정외보호 청소년들의 과거 부정적 사건 경험은 학교생활 적응에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 가정외보호 청소년들의 부정적 사건 경험이 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향에서 보호 요인인 자아존중감은 완전 매개 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 가정외보호 청소년들의 부정적 사건 경험이 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향에서 위험요인인 사회적 위축은 유의미한 매개 효과를 보이지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 연구결과를 토대로 가정외보호 청소년의 학교생활 적응을 향상시키기 위한 이론적․실천적 함의를 제공하였다.

The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of negative life event experiences of adolescents in out-of-home care on school adjustment, and to analyze the mediating effects of social withdrawal, the risk factors, and self-esteem, the protection factor. Data were analyzed using the first year panel data of the ｢Panel Study on Korean Children in Out-of-Home Care (PSKCOC)｣. The participants of this study were the fifth and sixth graders in elementary school who lived in out-of-home care, such as child care facilities, group homes, and foster care. Of the 494 responses, 479 were used for statistical analyses (SPSS 22.0, AMOS 26.0), excluding those which were incomplete. The main findings are as follows. First, the negative life events experiences of youths in out-of-home care did not have a significant impact on school adjustment. Second, self-esteem fully mediated the relationship between the negative life event experiences and school life adaptation. Third, social withdrawal had no significant mediating effect in the influence of negative life event experience on school adjustment. Based on these results, theoretical and practice implications to increase the school adjustment of adolescents in out-of-home care were suggested.
