Garine-Mixailovskii’s the Russian version of “Korean Story”(“Корейские сказки”) was translated into the Chinese version of “Korean Folktales”(󰡔朝鮮民間故事󰡕) after the French version of “Korean tales”(“Contes Coréens”), which has rich cultural implications. As the preface of “Korean Story” states, Garine tried to convey the beautiful heart and faithfulness of the innocent and good Koreans, and the pure hope and firm spirit of the Korean people who sought happiness. Garine’s perspective was clearly shown in the preface of Serge Persky and Zhou Zuoren(周作人), following the “Korean tales” and the “Korean Folktales”. They all share a cultural anthropological or folklore cultural relativism perspective, revealing a view that affirms the mind of Koreans and their cultural identity, which is related to the universal ethics and wisdom contained in Korean tales. Moreover, the French version of “Korean tales” and the Chinese version of “Korean Folktales” have special significance as they contain 15 illustrations drawn by Xu Beihong(徐悲鴻). Xu Beihong’s illustrations represent the dramatic moment scene of the story as a lively and elegant visual image, which can be evaluated as an original work. It is a great contribution to making Korean tales a more elegant story with an ‘Eastern atmosphere’. Xu Beihong displayed his artistic ability to turn verbal statements of the story into pictorial statements through illustration production, which is also noteworthy in that he has since provided a circular motif in creating some Chinese Painting.
