This thesis is the result of re-examining the literature of Yeoam Singyeongjun in the perspective of a pedestrian’s exploration of self-portrait in the 18th century. Contrary to the previous discussions focusing on great work as a scholar and literary person, this thesis examines the correlation between experience of pedestrian and formation of literature of Singyeongjun as a local person. In the results of discussion, it was revealed that the experience and sensibility of pedestrian would be important elements to understand Singyeongjun’s literary work that have been handed down until today. Chapter 2 verified the possibility to examine Singyeongjun’s literature in the new perspective by reviewing his life as a pedestrian and the self-narratives of it. Chapter 3 considered the presentation and orientation of pedestrian reflected into Singyeongjun’s literature by dividing them into three categories. Thus, this thesis verifies that many traces of wandering and memory of frequent moves were represented in his literary work, and also examines his tendency in which the experience of pedestrian expanded the prospect of sensibility. Especially, this thesis explains that he used the experience of pedestrian as a resource of writing; he used special writing techniques by applying the geographical knowledge; and he created the philosophy of road based on the meditation of road and movement. This thesis could be helpful for understanding Singyeongjun as a figure representing a pedestrian of the 18th century, and a local literary person who matured his own road by coping with hardship.
