The Effects of Sustainable Design Class on Sense of Community: Focusing on 3rd Graders of Middle School

초록/요약

The purpose of this study is to confirm the effect of sustainable design class on learners' sense of community. For this research, the educational value was examined through literature research and prior research on sustainable design classes and community consciousness. Community consciousness and sustainable design art dealt with in the art curriculum of the 2015 revised curriculum were identified, and the contents and perspectives on sustainable design presented in each textbook were analyzed through related units. Accordingly, learning objectives and evaluation plans were designed, and flow charts and detailed guidance plans for teaching-learning processes were prepared. The inspection tool of the study utilized a Korean community consciousness inspection tool developed by Jeong Jin-kyung (1999). Accordingly, a sustainable design class was conducted for art clubs of B Middle School in Daejeon to examine the sense of community before and after. Pre- and post-inspection data were statistically processed using the SPSS Ver 21.0 statistical package program, and the corresponding sample t-test was verified and analyzed to produce meaningful results. Also, the effectiveness of the program was confirmed through positive results of class satisfaction. To sum up the results of the study, the entire area and sub-items of community consciousness in the third year of middle school were statistically improved, indicating that sustainable design classes were meaningful in fostering community consciousness. The qualitative analysis of class satisfaction showed high satisfaction with the class compared to before class. As a result, this study has proven that sustainable design classes have had a significant impact on cultivating learners' sense of community.
