초록/요약
이옥의 벌레에 대한 글들은 그의 문학세계와 작가의식을 이해하는 데 중요한 단서로 평가되어 왔다. 이 글은 이옥의 벌레에 대한 글을 중심으로 벌레의 존재론, 인간과 물(物)의 관계에 대한 새로운 인식이 어떻게 드러나는가를 살펴본 것이다. 이 글에서는 ｢벼룩을 읊은 부｣ 전후편을 중심으로 분석하되 ｢거미를 읊은 부｣, 『백운필』의 벌레에 대한 글들도 함께 다루었다. 또 비슷한 시기에 벼룩이나 거미에 대해서 쓴 글을 비교하여 이옥의 인식이 갖는 특징을 분명히 드러내고자 했다. ｢벼룩을 읊은 부｣ 전후편은 경금자와 벼룩의 대비적 설정을 통해 각자의 입장을 말하게 하면서 인간중심적으로 보는 시선을 역전시키며, 벼룩에 대한 비유의 새로움을 통해서도 인식의 전환을 보여준다. 이러한 인식의 전환은 물아균시(物我均視)를 통해 생명의 동등성을 말하는 것으로 이어지는데 여기서 이옥은 생명의 동등성을 추상적으로 말하는 것이 아니라 자신의 손톱 밑에서 직접 느끼고, 하나의 벼룩과 대면하는 장면을 구체적으로 제시한다. 그런 점에서 이옥의 ｢벼룩을 읊은 부｣에서 이야기하는 생명은 구체적이다. 이옥이 벌레에 대한 글들을 통해 도달하는 지점은 인간도 벌레도 생명을 가진 존재로 태어나 각자의 생존 방식을 통해 살아갈 뿐이라는 인간과 벌레의 존재론과 생명에 대한 확장된 의식이다. 이는 이옥이 각각의 존재가 갖는 고유함, 즉 개성을 인정하며 개인적 삶의 방식을 추구한 것과도 무관하지 않은 것으로 보인다.

Yi Ok's writings about worms have been regarded as important clues in understanding his literary world and his consciousness. This article examines how a new perception of the existence of worms and the relationship between humans and material [物] such as objects and animals are revealed from Yi Ok's writings about worms. This article focuses on the first and second parts of "Flea" and “Spider,” as well as Yi Ok’s writings on worms in Baekwoonpil. By comparing Yi Ok’s writings about fleas and spiders to his writing about worms, this article examines his perception of life. The first and second episodes of "Flea" reverse the human-centered view of fleas through the contrastive setting of the human and flea, and also reveal a shift in perception through the novelty of the flea metaphor. This transition of perception leads to the understanding of the equivalence between human and flea, through which Yi Ok also concretely makes parallels to life. In this regard, the life that Yi Ok talks about in "Flea" is specific. The point that Yi Ok makes through his writings about worms relate to the ontology of humans and worms: both are born with an extended consciousness and only survive through their respective survival methods. This appears to be related to Yi Ok's pursuit of his personal philosophy , which is that of recognizing the uniqueness of each being.
