This study explored the factors influencing the satisfaction of life in the elderly with focusing on three resources needed to satisfy the basic needs of human beings: economic, health, and relationship resources. Data from the 7th (2018) survey of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) were employed, and the data were analyzed with a structural equation model. As a result of analysis, first of all, economy, health, and relationship resources all have positive effects on life satisfaction. Second, there are causal relationships among the three resources: (1) the relationship resource has a positive effect on the health resource, (2) the economic resource has a positive effect on the relationship resource. Third, the indirect effect of relationship resources on the life satisfaction is important. When comparing the direct and indirect effects of the relationship resource, the indirect effect is much more influential. The relationship resource indirectly impacts life satisfaction through health resource. This result of indirect effect of the resource shows that the importance of research method in the study of factors influencing life satisfaction. If it is not a statistical method that can analyze the indirect effects through a mediating variable such as a structural equation model or a path analysis, it is difficult to understand the exact effects of the resources on life satisfaction.

본 연구는 인간의 기본적 욕구충족에 필요한 세 가지 자원, 즉 경제자원, 건강자원, 관계자원을 중심으로 자원이 고령자의 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 구조방정식모형을 이용하여 한국고용정보원 고령화연구패널(KLoSA: Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing) 7차(2018년) 자료의 65세 이상 고령인구를 분석하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 경제, 건강, 관계자원 모두 삶의 만족에 긍정적 영향을 미치고 있다. 즉, 각 자원이 풍부한 고령자일수록 삶의 만족이 증가한다. 세 자원 중 경제자원이 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향이 가장 크며, 그 다음이 건강자원, 관계자원 순이었다. 둘째, 각 자원 간에도 서로 영향을 주고받는 영향관계가 성립하는데 경제자원은 관계자원에 긍정적 영향을 미치며, 관계자원은 건강자원에 긍정적 영향을 미친다. 셋째, 각 자원이 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향 중 매개변수를 통한 간접영향이 중요하다. 관계자원의 경우 관계자원이 삶의 만족에 미치는 직접영향과 매개변수를 통한 간접영향을 비교할 때 간접영향의 영향력이 훨씬 중요하다. 관계자원이 삶의 만족에 미치는 대부분의 영향은 건강자원을 매개로 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 분석결과는 삶의 만족 영향요인에 있어 매개효과와 연구방법의 중요성을 잘 보여준다. 구조방정식 또는 경로분석과 같이 매개변수를 통한 독립변수의 간접효과를 확인할 수 있는 연구방법이 아닐 경우 각 자원 변수가 삶의 만족에 미치는 정확한 영향을 이해하기 어렵다.
