초록/요약
마티엘로(2017)은 특히 영어의 신어를 유추의 관점에서 조명한 성과이다. 촘스키 이후 단어 형성을 규칙으로 간주하려는 입장이 지배적인 저간의 사정을 염두에 둔다면 단어 형성에서 유추에 초점을 두고 이것이 오히려 규칙을 포괄할 수 있다고까지 주장하고 있는 마티엘로(2017)의 의의는 매우 크다고 할 수 있다. 마티엘로(2017)는 전체 9장 구성으로 되어 있으나 이론적인 측면에서나 양적인 측면에서 유추와 관련된 다양한 개념을 검토하고 신어를 바탕으로 다양한 관점에서 유추를 유형화하고 있는 3장이 핵심이라 할 수 있다. 4장부터 7장까지는 장르 개념에 기반해 신어 가운데 전문 용어, 청소년 언어, 언론 용어, 문학 용어에서 나타나는 유추를 다루고 있다. 8장은 유추에 의해 형성된 신어들의 수용성 문제를 다루고 있다는 점에서 흥미롭다. 이러한 마티엘로(2017)의 논의는 한국어에도 적용될 수 있는 가능성이 적지 않다. 무엇보다도 한국에서도 유추가 특히 단어 형성에서 규칙에 대한 대안으로 제시된 이래 유추 자체의 유형화에 대한 논의를 찾기 어려웠는데 이에 대한 적용 가능성을 타진할 수 있었던 것은 가장 큰 성과라 할 수 있다. 또한 혼성어의 파편소가 결합형으로 발전해 가는 모습을 포착한 것도 한국어에 적용 가능하다. 한편 우리의 신어 보고서를 통해서는 사용 영역의 특성을 반영할 수 있는 부분이 그나마 전문 용어 정도라는 것은 아쉬운 부분이라고 할 수 있다.

Mattiello(2017) focused on new words by analogy. Keeping the mainstream on word-formation by rule in mind, Mattiello(2017) which asserted that analogy can cover word-formation by rule is especially worthy of notice. Although Mattiello(2017) consists of 9 chapters, chapter 3 is the most important both theoretically and quantitatively. From chapter 4 to chapter 7, Mattiello(2017) dealt with analogies that appear in specialised language, juvenile language, journalistic language, and literary works. In chapter 8, Mattiello(2017) introduced the test on acceptability of new words by analogy. These contents of Mattiello(2017) can be applied to Korean. Most of all, considering the situation in which there have not been much discussion about the types of analogy itself, various types of analogy in chapter 3 of Mattiello(2017) can be applied directly to Korean. Moreover, it is also applicable to Korean to capture the process of development from splinters in blending words to combining forms. Meanwhile, it is regrettable that the part which can reflect the characteristics of domain through the new words reports so far is just only in specialised language.
