본 연구의 목적은 미술치료전공 석사과정생이 호스피스 완화의료 현장실습에서 경험하는 어려움이 어떠한지 그 본질적 의미를 밝힘으로써 전문적인 호스피스 완화의료 미술치료 실습을 위한 교육 및 슈퍼비전에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하는 데에 있다. 이론과 실제의 통합이 이루어지는 현장실습은 미술치료전공 석사학위과정생이 미술치료에 대한 전문성을 기르고, 미술치료사로서 성찰할 수 있는 기회를 갖게 한다는 점에서 중요하다. 그러나 삶과 죽음을 다루는 호스피스 완화의료 실습현장은 임상 장면에 익숙하지 않은 석사학위과정생으로 하여금 다른 실습지에서 경험하는 것과는 또 다른 형태의 심리적 갈등을 야기시킨다. 이는 단순 미술치료 실제에 대한 어려움을 넘어 인간 존재의 본질이나 영적 돌봄에 대한 고민을 하게 함으로써 실습생을 소진시키는 요인이 된다. 그러나 이러한 심리적 갈등을 잘 대처한다면 오히려 인간의 전반적인 부분을 적립하고, 나아가 다양한 내담자를 품을 수 있는 성숙한 치료사로 성장하는 기반이 될 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Max van Manen의 해석학적 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하여 미술치료전공 석사과정생이 호스피스 완화의료 현장실습에서 경험하는 어려움을 생생하고 섬세하게 드러내어 그 의미를 심도 있게 해석하였다.

This study explores the difficulties that graduate students in art therapy experience in hospice palliative care training and identifies the meaning and essence of their experience. The goal is to provide the basic materials required for education and supervision of hospice palliative care training for art therapists. Hospice palliative care training is important as it nurtures students’ expertise in art therapy and provides them with the opportunity to self-identify as an art therapist. However, its clinical field training can pose different types of psychological conflicts to students who are not accustomed to the situations where life and death are considered. It entails not only the difficulties of the therapy itself but also the questioning of the essence of human existence and caring for spiritual well-being. However, if such emotional conflicts are well-addressed, the training can serve as a foundation for students to establish themselves as well-rounded human beings and to grow into mature therapists who can embrace a variety of patients. Accordingly, this study employs Max van Manen’s hermeneutical phenomenological research method to explore the meaning of the difficulties that graduate students in art therapy experience in hospice palliative care training.
