A Preliminary Study on the Development of a Questionnaire on the Attitudes towards Family Diversity

한국 사회는 2000년대 이후 급격하고도 근본적인 가족 문화 변화에 따른 가족 형태의 다양화를 목도하고 있다. 그러나 ‘결혼한 부부와 그 자녀’로 이루어진 전통적 형태의 핵가족은 여전히 관념적으로 ‘정상가족’의 위치를 점유하고 있으며, 이러한 형태를 벗어난 관계성은 사회적, 제도적인 차원에서 가족으로 온전히 인정받지 못하는 실정이다. 이에 정부 차원에서 다양한 가족에 대한 수용도를 파악하고 관련 정책을 설계, 개발하기 위하여 대국민 조사를 실시하는 등의 정책적 노력을 경주하고 있으나, 다루는 가족의 범위나 수용도의 측정 항목 면에서 여러 한계점이 존재한다. 따라서 본 연구는 기존에 실시되어온 가족 수용도 조사들의 장점을 살리되 한계를 보완하면서, 한국 사회에 존재하는 최대한 다양한 형태의 가족에 대한 인식과 수용 정도를 보다 명확히 분석할 수 있는 질문지를 개발하는 것을 목표로 삼았다. 이를 위해, 다양한 가족과 관련한 인식 및 태도를 조사한 국내외 대규모 조사들과 학술연구를 광범위하게 검토하고, 전문가 및 실무자 집단에 대한 포커스그룹 인터뷰(focus group interview)를 거쳐 다각적 차원에서 가족 다양성 수용도를 측정할 수 있는 질문지를 개발하였으며, 추가적인 통계적 검증결과를 참고하여 질문지의 내적 타당성과 신뢰도를 높이는 작업을 수행했다. 본 연구는 보편성을 가지면서도 한국적 특수성을 포괄할 수 있는, 신뢰도와 타당도를 갖춘 질문지를 완성하기 위한 탐색적 시도이자, 이후 대규모 조사를 통한 내용 확정을 준비하는 일련의 ‘과정’으로서의 의미를 갖는다. 이 연구에서 제안하는 질문지 안이 가족 다양성 수용도의 현 주소를 면밀히 파악하는 한편 모든 가족 형태가 사회적, 제도적으로 충분히 인정받는 가족 문화의 정착을 앞당기는데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.

초록/요약

Since 2000s, the South Korean society is observing the diversification of family structures, stemming from the dramatic and fundamental changes in family cultures. Nevertheless, the myth and idealization of traditional nuclear family - consisting of a married couple and their biological children still persist, deterring other forms of relationships from being socially and institutionally recognised as a family. Accordingly, the South Korean government recently launched efforts including conducting a national-level survey to understand the public perceptions of non-traditional families and developing related policies. However, the survey has several limitations such as question errors and a limited range of family types being covered. Recognising both the limitations and advantages of the existing measurements on the attitudes towards family diversity, the present study aims to develop a questionnaire that allows reliable and deeper-level analyses of the public attitudes and perceptions of family diversity. In order for this, the large-scale surveys conducted in national and international levels, as well as academic research on family diversity were extensively reviewed, and Focus Group Interviews (FGI) were conducted with the researchers and field professionals. The questionnaire developed through these processes is statistically assessed to verify its reliability and validity. The present study is a preliminary attempt to develop a reliable and valid instrument to measure the attitudes towards family diversity, both in universal and Korean-specific level. The questionnaire developed in this research hopes to shed light on the understandings of the public perceptions on family diversity, and to contribute to the establishment of social settings where all family types are socially and institutionally recognised.
