Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore reality of the employment of adults with developmental disabilities and support needs for employment retention by conducting interviews with adults with developmental disabilities, parents, business managers, and special education teachers. Method: For this purpose, 10 adults with developmental disabilities who have experiences in vocational training or working, 5 parents who have adults with developmental disabilities, 4 business managers, and 5 special education teachers from the capital area of Korea have participated in this study. Individual interviews were conducted with the adults with developmental disabilities, parents, and business managers, and a group interview was conducted with special education teachers. Results: A continuous comparison analysis method was used to analyze the interviews and there have been 5 themes emerged as follows: (a) reality of high school vocational education, (b) employment preparation and experiences after high school, (c) reality of work life, (d) factors for emloyment retention, and (e) support needs for employment and employment retention. Conclusion: Based on the findings, implications were discussed to improve employment outcomes and retention for adults with disabilities along with significance of the study, limitations and directions of future studies.

연구목적: 발달장애 성인의 취업과 관련하여 발달장애 성인, 부모, 사업체 관리자, 특수교사를 대상으로 면담을 하여 실제 고용현장에서 발달장애인의 취업 경험, 어려움과 해결방안, 고용유지를 위해필요한 지원을 알아보고자 한다. 연구방법: 수도권에 거주하는 직업 훈련 및 취업 경험이 있는 발달장애 성인 10명, 부모 5명, 사업체 관리자 4명, 특수교사 5명을 참여자로 선정하여, 발달장애 성인, 부모, 관리자는 개별 면담을, 특수교사는 그룹 면담을 하였고, 전사된 자료는 지속적 비교 분석법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과: 질적자료에 대한 분석 결과 다음과 같이 5개의 대주제가 도출되었다: 고등학교 직업교육의 현실, 졸업 후 취업 준비 및 취업 경험, 직장생활의 현실, 고용유지 요인, 취업 및고용유지 관련 지원 요구 결론: 연구 결과를 토대로 발달장애 성인의 취업 성과 및 고용유지 제고를위한 제언과 함께 본 연구의 의의 및 제한점, 후속 연구 방향에 대한 논의가 이루어졌다.
