본 연구는 국내의 지상파 드라마 <펜트하우스>에 표현된 폭력의 양을 확인하고 폭력이 어떠한 맥락에서 묘사되고 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 기존의 미디어 폭력성 논의를 살펴보고, PAT(가해자-행동-피해자)라는 분석단위를 적용하여 드라마에 등장하는 폭력이 어떤 맥락에서 그려지고 있는지 내용분석하였다. 구체적으로 ① 등장인물의 특성과 등장인물 간 관계, ② 폭력의 내용이 제시되는 방식, ③ 폭력 행위의 결과 등을 분석하였으며, 등장인물의 특성인 가해자와 피해자의 성별에 따라서 폭력의 맥락 요인들이 어떻게 달라지는지 알아보았다. 분석 결과, 가해자와 피해자의 성별 조합에 따라 폭력이 묘사되는 맥락에 차이가 존재했다. 우선 여성 가해자의 폭력은 복수를 하기 위해 동원되었음이 다시 한 번 확인되었고, 여성 가해자-여성 피해자의 경우 복수 코드가 전제되어 정당성이 부여되지 않은 폭력 행동이 다수 등장했고 이러한 폭력에 대한 보상이나 처벌 없이 간과되고 있었다. 여성 가해자-남성 피해자의 경우 폭력이 유머러스한 맥락에서 그려지고 있으며 폭력 피해를 당하더라도 위협감이나 공포심대신 모욕감과 수치심을 느끼는 것으로 확인되었다. 남성 가해자-남성 피해자는 폭력의 발생 장소가 업무공간이나 길거리 등 공적 장소가 많았으며, 여성이 포함된 경우는 주거지에서 폭력이 발생하였다.

This study attempted to identify the amount of violence expressed in the drama <Penthouse> and what context violence is described. The discussion of media violence was examined, and an analysis unit called PAT (perpetrator-action-target) was applied to content analysis of the violence in the drama. Specifically, this study analyzed ① the characteristics of characters and the relationship between characters, ② specific content of violence, and ③ results of violence. Also, how the contextual factors of violence change depending on the gender of the perpetrator and victim. As a result of the analysis, there was a difference in the context in which violence was described according to the gender combination of the perpetrator and the victim. First of all, once again confirmed that the violence of female perpetrators was mobilized to revenge, and in the case of female perpetrators-female victims, a number of taboo violence which was not justified due to revenge codes appeared and was overlooked without compensation or punishment for such violence. In the case of female perpetrators-male victims, violence is depicted in a humorous context, and it has been confirmed that they feel insulted and ashamed instead of threatened or feared even if they are harmed by violence. Male perpetrators-male victims’ violence occurred in public places, such as work spaces or streets, and violence occurred in residential areas when women were included.
