초록/요약

온라인 예배에 대한 신학적 정당성은 대체로 확보되었으며, 최근의 통계조사 결과를 놓고 보자면 편의성 면에서, 또한 시대적 흐름이라는 면에서, 온라인 예배의 활성화 가능성은 인정될 수 있다. 그럼에도 여전히 온라인 예배에 대한 개신교인들의 불만족은 존재하고 있다. 개신교인들이 온라인 예배에 대해 만족하지 못하는 이유는, 무엇보다도 온라인 예배를 새로운 낯선 방식의 의례로 받아들일 뿐만 아니라, 낯설기 때문에 불안하고, 적절하지 않다고 느끼기 때문이다. 예배 참여자들의 행동은 오프라인 예배를 수행하는 교회라는 공간에 맞도록 셋팅이 되어 있고, 그 결과 예배당에 모여서 예배를 드릴 때만 비로소 예배를 참여했다고 느낄 수 있게 된 것이다. 이런 이유에서 우리는 예배당이 아닌 다른 공간에서 드리는 온라인 예배를 예배가 아닌 것으로 생각하기 쉽다. 현장 예배에 참여한 사람들은 함께 예배드리는 타자를 관찰하고, 의식하면서, 자신의 행동을 스스로 통제하게 되는 상호작용 속에 머물게 된다. 하지만 온라인 세계에서의 예배에 참여한 사람들은 자신을 지켜보는 눈이 없는 까닭에 개인적인 다른 많은 행위를 예배와 동시에 행할 수도 있다. 현장 예배에서 타인들과 더불어 머물렀던 예배공간에 대한 몸에 밴 경험이 온라인 예배에서는 결여되기 때문이다. 현장 예배의 분위기는 대부분 매우 역동적인데 특히 전자악기를 사용한 크고 빠른 찬양의 시간이 길게 진행된다. 이런 역동적인 모습을 온라인 예배에서는 경험하기 어렵기 때문에 온라인 예배에 만족하기 어렵다고 느끼게 되는 것이다. 예배 생활이란 언제나 동시대에 일어나는 문화적 발전과 더불어 형성되고 구성되는 것이다. 따라서 이 시대의 디지털 문화와 더불어 예배 생활을 형성하고 구성하는 일은 교인들의 불만족을 이유로 피할 수 있는 일은 아니다.

Online worship has been theologically justified on the whole, and its convenience and trendiness promote its use, as recent statistics show. Not all the protestants are, however, satisfied with this new way of worship. The widely accepted thesis of social psychology, ‘A space affects human behavior.’ can explain their dissatisfaction. Offline worshippers are accustomed to the church setting as a space, so they would believe that their worship is properly performed only at the church. They could feel that online worship - not performed at brick-and-mortar church - cannot be a real one for them. Onsite worship participants observe other participants and control their own behavior, accordingly. It is a kind of interactive process. On the contrary, online worship participants receive the contents by themselves, which gives them chances to do other things at the same time, and the contents providers cannot even know who are using their contents. Dissatisfaction with online worship comes from the lack of the experience of sharing the same place as a worship setting. The style of onsite worship in Korean church could be another reason for the dissatisfaction with online worship. Most of the onsite worships are very dynamic. They generate collective enthusiasm, which online worship can not provide. Worship is formed in the context of contemporary cultural development. Contemporary worship can not be formed apart from or beyond the digital culture, even though some worshippers are not satisfied with the new way of worship.
