본 연구는 범죄뉴스 요인인 사건 발생 지역과 유형이 사람들의 위험 인식(지각된 위험)과 태도(지각된효능감)에 미치는 영향을 탐구하기 위해 3개 지상파와 4개 종합편성채널이 유튜브를 통해 전달하는 범죄 보도를 중심으로 수용자 댓글 내용을 분석했다. 위험지각 태도(RPA) 모델을 활용해 댓글에 드러난 인식을 ‘지각된 심각성’과 ‘지각된 취약성’, 태도를 ‘자기 효능감’과 ‘반응 효능감’으로 두고 측정한 결과, 범죄뉴스에 노출된 사람들은 광역시, 도, 해외에서 발생한 범죄 순으로 자신에게 해당 사건이 벌어질 가능성이 크고 이를 막을 방안을 더 능동적으로 제시하고자 하지만, 그 행위의 효율성에 대해서는 의심하는 것으로 나타났다. 또 강력 범죄가 본인에게 일어날 가능성이 크나, 이에 대한 예방 행동 제안의 적극성이나 그 행동의 효과 등에 대한 신뢰도는 낮은 것으로 조사됐다. 종합적으로는 절도·폭력·지능·교통범죄보다 강력 범죄를, 특히 국내 발생 보도로 접했을 때, 사람들은 본인의 힘으로 아무 대처도 할 수 없다는 무력감에 빠진다는 해석이 도출됐다. 연구 결과는 범죄 보도 방식 제고, 관련 정보의 비판적 이해 등뉴스 리터러시 발전의 참고자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.

This study analyzed the user comments on crime news aired through YouTube platform, which were originally reported by three terrestrial and four comprehensive programming TV channels, in order to explore the media influence on audience perception(cognition and attitudes). Adopting Risk Perception Attitude (RPA) model, authors investigated people’s perceived threat [i.e., cognition (seriousness and vulnerability)] and perceived efficacy[i.e., attitude (response and self)] featured in their comments, and found that people exposed to crime news were apt to judge the likelihood of crime outbreak and showed willingness to provide options to stop them in accordance with the geographic order from the metropolitan city to province and overseas, but doubted whether such options would be effective for them to evade the danger of crime. In addition, people felt that felonies than misdemeanor were more likely to happen to them, but they were not very active in building prevention strategies and had little trust in the effectiveness of their actions. In general, the study results showed that people felt vulnerable that they could not do anything to prevent and act against to danger, specifically when they read stories about felony committed inside Korea.
