대학생의 학습공동체 참여 동기, 경험, 변화에 대한 현상학적 연구: A 대학교의 사례를 중심으로

본 연구에서는 학습공동체 활동에 참여하는 대학생의 동기와 목적, 학습공동체에서의 경험, 활동 후 학습자에게 나타난 변화를 현상학적으로 살펴봄으로써 성인학습자들이 학습공동체를 통하여 얻은 주관적 경험이 갖는 교육적 의미를 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 A 대학 학습공동체 프로그램인 JUMP(가명) 참여 경험이 있는 재학생 14명과 초점집단면담을 진행하여 자료를 수집하였다. Giorgi(1997)의 현상학적 연구 방법에 따라 면담 녹음본 청취, 전사본 반복 정독 후, 내용을 동기, 경험, 변화 세 주제로 나누어 의미 단위 분석을 시행하였다. 그 결과 주제별로 구조적으로 통합된 핵심 구성요소와 하위 구성요소를 도출할 수 있었다. 연구 참여자들은 관심사와 관련된 다양한 학습경험 습득과 프로그램의 장점을 기대하며 학습공동체 활동에 참여하였다. 활동 중에는 활동 과정상의 어려움, 공동체라서 가능했던 경험, 성취감 경험을 습득한 것으로 나타났다. 활동 후 변화에는 능력의 신장, 인식의 함양, 진로 발달 과정과 관련된 변화가 확인되었다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 현상학적 관점에서 대학생의 학습공동체 활동 참여 동기, 경험, 변화의 의미를 구체적으로 이해하고 이를 대학생 진로 발달 과정 및 성인학습자의 특성과 연관 지음으로써 학습공동체 활동의 발전 방향을 제언하였다.

The purpose of this study was to explore college students’ experiences in a learning community focusing on “motivation,” “experience,” and “changes” using phenomenology. The data were collected through focus group interviews (FGI) with 14 students who had participated in ‘JUMP’(pseudonym), a learning community program at University A in Seoul, Korea. Following Giorgi's (1997) guidelines, a semantic unit analysis was conducted by dividing the contents into three topics including “motivation,” “experience,” and “changes,” which resulted in the designation of core components and sub-components for each topic. Participants in the study were motivated by various learning experiences centering on personal interests and the benefits of the JUMP program. During the program, they underwent difficulties in the activity process, shared a group experience, and felt a sense of achievement. Through JUMP, participants experienced increased ability and knowledge, enhanced self-awareness, and career development. This study provides implications for the improvement of learning communities targeting young adults by understanding their career development processes and the characteristics of adult learners.
