본 연구는 태국인 한국어 학습자를 위한 초급 후반과 중급 수준의 읽기 교재 시리즈의 개발 원리와 실제를 소개하는 데 목적을 두었다. 본 교재 시리즈는 한국의 자연을 포함한 한국의 생활, 한국의 역사, 한국의 경제와 사회, 한국의 문화 영역별로 구성되었으며 본 연구에서는 자연 영역의 예를 들어 개발 원리와 절차, 단원의 구성을 제시하였다. 본 교재는 태국 중등학교에서 제2외국어로 한국어를 선택해 학습하는 학습자들을 대상으로 하는 만큼 태국 교육부의 외국어 교육과정과 한국 교육부의 해외 초‧중등학교 한국어 교육과정을 검토하여 교수요목을 마련하였다. 교재 개발의 원리로는 학습자 중심의 현지 맞춤형 교재 개발, 학습자의 한국어 읽기 능력 향상과 언어 기술의 연계 확장, 인지 능력 함양 및 세계 시민으로의 성장, 학습자의 교재 접근성과 학습 수월성 확보 등을 중점에 두었다. 학습자의 자료 접근성 확보를 위하여 개발된 본 교재는 다양한 기기에서 이용할 수 있는 전자책으로 출판하되 자율적 학습을 지원하기 위하여 반응형 이북으로 제작되었다.

The purpose of this study is to introduce the principles and the practice of developing Korean reading textbook series for high beginners and intermediate-level learners in Thailand. The textbook series consists of five content areas (Korean nature, Korean life, Korean history, Korean economy and society, and Korean culture). This study takes the domain topic of Korean nature as an example for proposing development principles and procedures, and chapter composition. As this textbook is aimed at learners who choose Korean as a second language in Thai secondary schools, the foreign language curriculum of the Thai Ministry of Education and the Korean language curriculum for primary and secondary schools overseas of the Korean Ministry of Education were reviewed to prepare teaching guidelines. The textbook development principles put emphasis on developing learner-centered localized textbooks, improving learners‘ Korean reading skills and expanding language skills, cultivating cognitive skills and growing into global citizens, and securing learners‘ access to textbooks and ease of learning. This textbook, developed to facilitate learners‘ access to data, is published as an interactive e-book available on various devices to support autonomous learning.
