본 연구에서는 장애아동 양육시설에서 자란 여성 지적장애인의 삶을 깊이 탐색하여 자립과 취업 그리고 결혼과 출산 과정에서 어려움과 지원요구가 무엇인지 살펴보고자 했다. 이를 위해 성공적으로 독립한 탈시설 여성 지적장애인을 대상으로 면담하고 네러티브 분석하였으며 그 결과 생애주기에 따라 5개의 범주로 구분되었다: 유년기, 학령기, 독립기, 결혼기, 과거의 나를 넘어 미래로. 연구 결과 유년기는 부모의 상실과 장애로 인한 낙인이 특징적이었고 학령기는 분리된 교육, 묵살된 가능성, 그리고 통합교육과 취업을 통한 사람과의 교류 확대가 주된 특징이었다. 독립기는 새로운 나의 발견, 버티고 감내하기, 무리 밖의 나와 독립을 위한 필수조건이 확인되었고 결혼기는 결혼을 통한 안정과 행복, 아이로 인한 부부의 변화와 임신과 출산을 위한 지원이 특징으로 드러났다. 마지막으로. 과거의 나를 넘어 미래로에서는 과거의 나를 돌아보고 함께 살기의 가치를 토대로 나와 가족의 장밋빛 미래로 나타났다. 이를 통해 참여자의 삶의 동기, 정체성 변화와 그러한 변화를 끌어낸 인적‧사회적 요인을 파악할 수 있었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 장애인의 독립과 결혼 그리고 출산을 지원하기 위한 실천적 제언을 제시하였다.

This study explores the difficulties and needs in the process of independence, employment, marriage and childbirth through the life of a woman who had raised in a juvenile residential facility. For the study, a woman with intellectual disability who has successfully in a community was recruited. In-depth interviews were conducted and the collected data was analyzed using narrative analysis. Five categories emerged according to the life cycle as follows: Childhood, school age, independent period, marriage period, and the future self beyond my past From the findings, the loss of parents and the stigma of disability were revealed as features of childhood. The school period was characterized by segregated education, being disregarded and the expansion of interactions with people through inclusive education and employment experience. The independent period was featured as finding unknown side of me, holding up and enduring, outsider, and the necessary condition for independence. The feeling of stability and happiness, changes in herself and her spouse by childbirth and support for pregnancy and childbirth were the main features of the marriage period. Lastly, from the category of the future self beyond my past, it was revealed that her family’s splendid future through reflecting on her past and realizing the value of living together. Through that, we found the motive of her life, the change in her identity, and the human and social factors that led to those changes in her identity and life. Based on the findings, practical suggestions were provided for independent living, marriage, and childbirth of women with intellectual disabilities.
