본 연구는 성평등교육을 실천하는 중등 사회과 교사 4인의 성평등교육 수업에 대한 특징과 유형을 분석하고 이를 둘러싼 내재적⋅외재적 맥락을 탐색하였다. 현상학적 질적 사례 연구 방법을 적용한 본 연구는 심층 면담과 물적 자료에 대한 분석을 통해 개별 교사들의 수업 실천 사례를 유형화하여 분류하고, 이에 영향을 주는 다층적 맥락을 종합적으로 해석하여 성평등교육 수업이라는 현상에 내재된 본질적 의미를 논의하고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 사회과 교사 4인의 성평등교육 수업은 다음과 같이 유형화 되었다: 1)중립적 내용 중심 강의식 전달형, 2)흥미 유발 중심 활동 참여형, 3)리터러시 함양 중심 융합 탐구형, 4)비판적 사고 중심 공감 확장형. 한편, 사례별 차별화 양상을 보이는 각 교사의 성평등교육 수업은 단순히 개인적 차원의 경험에만 국한되지 않고, 학교 유형과 학생 구성, 학교 문화 특성과 같은 외재적 맥락과, 교사의 성평등 가치 지향 정도와 교직 경력 등 내재적 맥락의 중첩적 결과로 나타났다. 본 연구는 사회과 교사의 성평등교육 수업 실천과 양상을 맥락적 산물이자 구조적 현상으로 이해함으로써, 학교 및 교실 현장에서의 성평등교육의 실제와 이를 실천하는 사회과 교사 및 수업을 둘러싼 환경과 제도에 대한 경험적⋅실천적⋅시의적 함의를 제공한다.

This study explored gender equality education teaching practices of four secondary social studies teachers, and their contextuality. Applying a phenomenological case study method, this qualitative study examined the individual teacher' differentiated teaching practice of gender equality education through an analysis of interviews and artifacts, and comprehensively interpreted the internal/external contexts that shaped such phenomena. The findings demonstrated that the gender equality education teaching practices of the teachers were categorized as follows: 1) neutrality-oriented content delivery, 2) interest-oriented participatory activities, 3) literacy-oriented convergent inquiry, and 4) critical thinking-oriented empathy extension. Meanwhile, each type of teaching practice, that is seemingly unique, was found to be a holistic phenomenon widely influenced by external contexts such as school type, student composition, and school culture, as well as internal contexts including the teachers’ perceptions regarding gender equality and teaching experience. The results of this study provide empirical and practical implications for the new possibilities on gender equality education in social studies education.
