본 연구는 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 만 3세 유아의 이야기 꾸미기 사례를 통해 이야기 구조 발달 단계를 살펴보고, 만 3세 유아의 이야기 구성력을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 글 없는 그림책과 이야기 꾸미기의 교육적 가치를 되짚어보고 만 3세 유아의 이야기 구조 발달에 대한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 의의가 있다. 이를 위해 서울 F구 소재 D 유치원의 만 3세 유아 14명을 대상으로 일과 중 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 이야기 꾸미기 사례를 수집하여 분석하였다. 수집된 사례는 이영자와 박미라(1992)의 이야기 구조 발달 단계를 활용해 분석되었다. 연구결과, 만 3세 유아의 이야기 꾸미기 사례는 총 14개 수집되었다. 수집된 사례의 이야기 구조 발달 단계로는 이야기 형태 인식기의 사례가 4개, 초보적 이야기 형성기에 해당하는 사례가 4개, 그리고 단순 나열식 이야기 형성기에 해당하는 사례가 6개였다. 즉, 만 3세 유아들의 이야기가 대부분 3단계인 단순 나열식 이야기 형성기에 있음을 알 수 있다. 이는 유아가 이야기 구성력과 이야기 구조에 대한 이해를 시작하였으며, 이야기를 만들어가는 능력이 충분히 있음을 시사한다. 또한 만 3세 유아의 다양한 이야기 꾸미기 활동의 가치에 대해서도 시사한다.

This study aims to examine the development stages of a story structure and analyze the story construction abilities of three-year-olds through their use of storytelling case of wordless picture books. The study thus (a) reflects the educational values of wordless picture books and storytelling (b) provides basic data about three-year-olds’s development of a story structure. For these purposes, the investigator collected and analyzed storytelling cases with a wordless picture books from the daily schedule of 14 three-year-olds at D Kindergarten in F-gu, Seoul. Collected cases were analyzed according to the development stages of a story structure by Lee and Park(1992). The findings show that within the 14 collected story cases, 4 of the story cases were in the story form recognization stage, while another 4 story cases were in elementary story making. Remaining 6 story cases were in simple listing story making stage. In other words, most of the three-year-olds were at the third stage of making a story in a simple listing manner in the development stages of a story structure, which implies that three-year-olds started to understand story construction abilities and story structure and had enough abilities to make a story. These results also have implications for the values of various storytelling activities.
