자폐 범주성 장애(autism spectrum disorder, ASD) 아동의 제한적이고 반복적인 행동과 관심에 대한 연구가 축적됨에 따라 특별한 관심 영역(special interest area, SIA)의 활용에 대한 연구가 증가하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 ASD 아동의 사회적 기술을 중재할 때 이들의 SIA가 어떻게 활용되고 있는지 고찰하고자 하였으며, 이를 위하여 관련 중재 연구를 분석하였다. 선정 기준에 따라 총 21편의 논문을 선정하여 연구의 개괄적인 동향과 SIA 활용 사회적 기술 중재의 특성을 분석하였다. SIA를 활용한 사회적 기술 중재는 인지기능 수준에 상관없이 효과가 증명되었으며 주로 통합된 환경에서 선행사건 기반의 형태로 중재가 실시되었다. ASD 아동의 SIA는 특정 사실과 구어적인 기억 및 활동과 시각적 기억에 관련한 내용이 주를 이루었으며 많은 경우 사회적 게임이나 활동에 삽입되거나 파워카드 형태로 제공되었다. SIA 활용 중재는 사회적 참여 행동과 사회적 시작행동 향상을 위한 중재에 활용되었다. 구체적인 SIA 활용 중재 분석 결과를 바탕으로 ASD 아동의 SIA를 활용한 중재의 시사점과 향후 과제에 대해 논의하였다.

In this study, the overall trend of social skill intervention using special interest area (SIA) for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) was examined; additionally, the types and characteristics of intervention studies were analyzed to discover what implications they have for the educational field. A total of 21 studies were selected according to the selection criteria. The intervention was conducted mainly in an inclusive environment using antecedent approach. Results showed that there was a positive effect when incorporating SIA to social skill intervention regardless of cognitive abilities. Most of the SIAs were in the facts/verbal memory and activities/visual memory categories and was often embedded into social games/activities or presented in Power Card strategies. SIA was used for interventions in order to improve both social engagement and social initiation behaviors. Based on the results of this study, the implications and recommendations for intervention using SIA for children with ASD were discussed.
