본 연구의 목적은 가정 밖 청소년들의 자녀를 입양 보낸 경험을 이들의 맥락과 환경을 고려하여 이해하는 것이다. 이를 위해 청소년기에 자녀를 출산하고 입양을 보낸 경험이 있는 가정 밖 청소년 4명을 대상으로 개별 심층면접을 진행하고 질적 사례연구로 분석하였다. 연구결과 18개의 의미단위, 8개의 하위범주, 3개의 상위범주를 도출하였다. ‘보호받지 못한 상처로 가득한 유년시절’, ‘고단한 가시밭길 인생’, ‘방황하며 갈피를 못잡던 시간을 지나가기’라는 3개의 상위범주로 구분되었다. 본 연구의 중심주제는 ‘내 아이를 옆에서 보살필 수 없는 외롭고 허망한 인생’으로 도출되었다. 참여자들의 경우 가정 밖 청소년이면서 아동기의 부정적인 경험을 가지고 있던 것으로 드러났고 취약성이 중첩되어 있었던 상황에서 보호 체계는 아이들을 지원해줄만큼 충분하지 않았던 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 입양을 경험한 가정 밖 청소년의 특수성을 알리고 자녀를 입양 보낸 경험이 있는 가정 밖 청소년들을 위한 정책 및 실천적 방안에 대해 제언하였다. 또한 가정 밖 청소년으로서 입양 과정에서 겪을 수 있는 특수성과 가정 밖 청소년이자 청소년미혼모로서 두 집단 간에 공통적으로 소속됨으로서 갖는 긴밀한 유사성을 밝혀냈다는 것에 본 연구의 함의가 있다.

The study aims to understand the experience of the out-of-home youth who have put their own child up for adoption. Individual in-depth interviews were conducted with four out-of-home adolescents who had experiences of giving birth during their teenage years and placing their child for adoption. The interviews were analyzed using qualitative case study methodology. The analysis has derived 18 meaning units, 3 main categories, and 8 sub-categories. The three main categories are "unprotected childhood filled with emotional wounds," "thorny path of life of struggle," and "navigating through a period of confusion and uncertainty." The central theme that runs through these out-of-home youths’ adoption experiences is ‘a lonely and hopeless life not even allowing me to raise the child I gave a birth to.’ It is clear that the participants as out-of-home adolescents had negative childhood experiences and were exposed to overlapping vulnerabilities, while existing protection systems were not sufficient to s upport them adequately. The study provides insights into the unique characteristics of out-of-home adolescents who are also thrown into single parenthood. highlighting the specific challenges they face during the adoption process. Furthermore, the study makes recommendations for policy and practice measures to support these youths who are in a doubly distressing situation of having to deal with both being out of home and a single parent.
