鐘鼎圖 병풍 연구 : 종정 도안 및 金石圖說의 활용을 중심으로

A Study on Folding Screens of Jongjeongdo : Focusing on Design of Chinese Ancient Bronzes and Utilization of Epigraphy Books

초록/요약

‘鐘鼎圖[또는 준이종정도]’란 중국 고대 청동기의 의례적 기물을 문양으로 그리거나 수놓은 작품을 일컫는다. 본 연구는 한국에서 19세기 후반~20세기 전반에 걸쳐 병풍형식으로 제작된 종정도를 대상으로, 그 주요 도상 및 제작의 경향성, 전개과정의 종합적 고찰을 목적으로 한다. 고동기물의 섬세한 묘사뿐 아니라 銘文을 화면에 그대로 옮긴 점, 각 기물의 용도와 제작주체를 면밀히 고증하고 있다는 점에서, 19세기 조선의 금석학에 대한 관심과 淸代 금석학 도서 유입 및 활용의 측면에 주목했다. 이에 宋代 『考古圖』, 『博古圖』를 비롯해, 청대 『西淸古鑑』, 『金石索』 등의 금학 연구서, 특히 도설과 명문이 함께 수록된 도서들이 종정도의 밑그림으로 활용되었음을 고동도안과 명문의 비교분석을 통해 논한다. 이처럼 청동예기를 모사해 三代를 상고하고, 고동기물의 영험한 벽사능력 뿐만 아니라 길금의 복록을 취하고자 했던 종정도는 채색, 금니로도 제작되었지만 최종적으로는 자수 병풍으로 유형화되면서 확대 생산된 것으로 여겨진다. 다만 20세기 전반을 즈음하면 금석학과의 밀접한 관계성은 점차 느슨해지고 설화나 상상의 산물이 도안으로 추가되면서 길상성이 더욱 부각되는 형태로 전개된다. 그리고 종정의 모티브는 신화적 고대를 상징하는 산물인 동시에 오리엔탈리즘을 자극하는 새로운 역할을 부여받는다.

초록/요약

The purpose of this study is to observe the examples of Jongjeongdo in folding screens form during late 19th – early 20th century and attempt an overall study regarding the major icons, tendencies in making, and procedure of developing the Jongjeongdo folding screens created through various technique and materials, such as coloring, gold painting, and embroidery. The Jongjeongdo refers to works that paint or embroider ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessels as icons; considering that not only the detailed descriptions of the ancient bronze vessels but also the words on those vessels were copied and that it meticulously ascertains the purpose and the producers historically, the interest on epigraphy of 19th century Joseon and the introduction and utilization of epigraphy books from Qing dynasty were considered. On this, it is argued that epigraphy books from Song dynasty such as 『Kaogutu(考古圖)』 and 『Bogutu(博古圖)』, along with epigraphy research books from Qing dynasty such as 『Xiqing Gujian(西淸古鑑)』, and 『Jinshisu(金石索)』, and especially the books with illustrations and words on vessels are used as the basis of Jongjeongdo through comparison analysis on the core values of Jongjeongdo: the design and the words of ancient bronze vessels. Jongjeongdo attempted to portray the bronze ritual vessels to appeal the idealistic ages of Shang and Zhou and gain not only the miraculous exorcistic power but also the blessing of bronze ritual vessels; while they were created as paintings and chrysography, they ultimately took form of embroidered folding screens. However, by early 20th century, the close connection with epigraphy became loose and the objects from myths and imaginations were added as designs, highlighting good luck and omen. Finally, the motive of Jongjeong receives a new role of the product which signifies the mythic ancient and at the same time, stimulation for Orientalism.
