초록/요약
The UN Secretary-General warned that the earth is moving beyond the era of “warming” and facing the era of “boiling.” We live in the era of climate crisis, or, more precisely climate collapse. What kind of missions should Christian universities carry out in the chapels and religious education program? This article is written in response to the outcome of the 2023 Academic Conference of the Korea Association of University Missions(KAUMS), which was held at Ewha Womans University in Seoul on June 22-23, under the theme of “Mission for Life in the Era of Climate Crisis and the Role of Christian Universities.” Converging the results of this conference, this article suggests as to what kind of Christian messages and biblical values should be shared in the university chapel and religious education sites so that students can be persuaded and empathized. For this purpose, the author in this article first identifies the roots of Corona 19, which all humankind has experienced as a disaster for the past three years, as the same and identical root causes of the current climate crisis. Then the author suggests that a careful listening to the Creation. and the spirituality of emptiness and gratitude, as well as the biblical teaching of hospitality to strangers could be the core biblical messages for chapel and religious education in Christian universities.

지구가 ‘온난화’(warming) 시대를 넘어 ‘열대화’(boiling) 시대에 접어들었다고 있다고 UN 사무총장은 우려했다. 기후위기, 아니 기후붕괴의 시대다. 기독교대학은 채플과 종교교육의 현장에서 어떤 생명선교를 감당해야 하는가? 이 글은 지난 2023년 6월 22∼23일 양일간 서울의 이화여자대학교에서 “기후위기 시대의 생명선교와 기독교대학의 사명”이라는 주제로 열린 ‘한국기독교대학교목회 하계 연수회 및 한국대학선교학회 정기학술대회’의 성과를 수렴해 앞으로 기독교대학의 채플과 종교교육 현장에서 어떤 구체적인 기독교적 메시지가 보편적으로 공감되고 설득될 수 있도록 선포되고 나누어져야 하는지 제안하는 글이다. 필자는 이 글에서 먼저 지난 3년간 온 인류가 재난으로 경험한 코로나 19의 뿌리가 지금의 기후위기의 근본 원인과 맞닿아 있음을 규명하면서, 신속한 생태적 회심(전환)을 위해 창조세계의 ‘들음’, 비움과 감사의 영성, 그리고 환대와 포용의 성서적 메시지의 중요성을 제안할 것이다.
