본 연구에서는 여성의 이사회 참여가 연구개발투자 성과에 미치는 효과를 분석하였다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해, 여성의 이사회 참여가 성공가능성이 높은 연구개발투자를 유도하고 연구개발투자와 관련한 위험을 낮추는지를 실증적으로 검증하였다. 2014년부터 2018년까지 한국거래소 유가증권시장에 상장된 비금융기업의 3,540개 기업-년 자료를 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 여성이 이사회에 참여하는 경우, 연구개발투자가 산업재산권 증가에 미치는 효과가 강화되는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 여성이 이사회에 참여하는 경우, 연구개발투자로 인한 부채자본비용 증가가 약화되는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 검증결과는 여성의 이사회 참여로 연구개발투자 성과가 높아진다는 것을 의미한다.

This study examines whether the existence of female directors on the board not only increases the positive effect of R&D investment on the creation of industrial property rights but also decreases the positive impact of R&D investment on the cost of debt capital. Analyzing 3,540 non-financial firm-year data listed on the Korea Stock Exchange from 2014 to 2018, we find that the existence of female directors on the board strengthens the positive effect of R&D investment on the creation of industrial property rights. In addition, we find that the existence of female directors on the board weakens the positive impact of R&D investment on the cost of debt capital.
