본 연구는 유아들이 실내놀이와 실외놀이에서 교사의 역할에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 있는지, 교사가어떤 역할을 하기 바라는지 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 서울시와 경기도에 소재한 3개의 공립유치원과 2개의 사립유치원에 재학 중인 만 5세 학급 유아 160명이 연구에 참여하였으며, 연구방법으로는 면담과 그림그리기를 통하여 유아의 생각을 알아보았다. 연구결과, 첫째, 실내놀이에서 유아가 인식하는 교사의 역할은 ‘우리를 지켜봐 주세요’, ‘우리와 함께 놀이해요’, ‘일을 해요’ 순으로 나타났으며, 유아가 바라는 교사의 역할로는 ‘함께 놀았으면 좋겠어요’, ‘즐겁게 놀이하게 지원해주면 좋겠어요’, ‘안전하게 놀이하게 도와주면 좋겠어요’ 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 실외놀이에서 유아가 인식하는 교사의 역할은 ‘안전하게 놀이할 수 있게 해줘요’, ‘우리와 함께 놀이해요’, ‘사진을 찍어줘요’ 순으로 나타났으며, 실외놀이에서 유아가 바라는 교사의 역할로는 ‘함께 놀았으면 좋겠어요’, ‘안전하게 놀이하게 도와주면좋겠어요’, ‘즐겁게 놀이하게 지원해주면 좋겠어요’ 순으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 놀이에서 적절한교사의 역할에 대해 다시 생각해 보도록 하며, 유아 중심·놀이 중심 교육이 실현될 수 있도록 하기 위해 유아의 목소리를 듣는 것의 중요성을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study was to explore how young children perceive the roles of their teachers in both indoor and outdoor play, as well as to identify what they desire their teachers to do during these activities. A total of 160 young children, attending 5-year-old classes in three public kindergartens and two private kindergartens located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, participated in this study. Interviews and drawing activities were conducted to gain insight into their thoughts. The results were as follows. First, in indoor play, the roles of teachers perceived by young children were in the order of ‘keeping an eye on us,’ ‘playing with us,’ and ‘doing something else,’ while their desired roles for teachers were ranked in the order of ‘playing with us,’ ‘supporting us to play joyfully,’ and ‘helping us play safely.’ Second, in outdoor play, the roles of teachers perceived by young children were in the order of ‘enabling us to play safely,’ ‘playing with us,’ and ‘taking pictures of us,’ while their desired roles for teachers were in the order of ‘playing with us,’ ‘helping us play safely,’ and ‘supporting us to play joyfully.’ These findings challenge us to reconsider the appropriate roles of teachers in play and imply the importance of listening to the voices of young children to ensure child-centered and play-centered education can be realized.
