본 연구는 부모세대를 건너뛴 조부모와 손자녀로 구성된 조손가족 내 세대 차이와 어려움에 대한 삶의 경험을 살펴보고자 이루어졌다. 연구참여자는 조손가족으로 구성 된지 1년 이상이 된 가족 중 조부모 7명과 손자녀 7명으로 선정하였으며, 자료수집은 1:1 심층면접을 활용하였으며, Braun과 Clarke이 제시한 주제분석 방법을 통해 수집 된 자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과 2개의대주제, 5개의 구성요소, 14개의 하위주제가 분석되었다. 조손가족이 느끼는 세대차이와 삶의 경험으로는 대주제 ‘조손가족이 느끼는 세대차이’, ‘세대차이로 인한 가족생활의 한계(어려움)’이었으며, 구성요소로는 ‘가치관의 차이’, ‘생활방식의 차이’, ‘손자녀의 발달단계별 어려움’, ‘주변으로부터 고립되어져 감’, ‘세대를 건너뛴 돌봄의 어려움’ 등이 도출되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 조손가족이 겪는 세대차이와 그로 인한 삶의 어려움을 해소하기 위한 사회복지의 실천 및 정책적 대안에 대해 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the life experiences of grandparents and their grandchildren who live together in the absence of the parents, focusing on generational gap and difficulties. Seven dyads of grandparents and grandchildren were recruited from skipped-generational families that lasted more than one year and a qualitative study was conducted using data collected through one-on-one in-depth interviews. As a result of Braun and Clarker’s 6 steps of thematic analysis, two major themes, five components, and a total of fourteen sub-themes were identified. Two major themes include ‘generation gap felt by grandparents and grandchildren’ and ‘difficulties in daily life caused by generation gap.’ The five components were ‘difference in values’, ‘difference in life style’, ‘difficulties by developmental stage of grandchildren’, ‘sense of isolation’, and ‘difficulties in caring for skipped-generation.’ Social welfare practice and policy implications for alleviating the difficulties caused by the generation gap between grandparents and grandchildren of skipped-generation families were discussed.
