본 연구는 사회통합프로그램 교육과정 중의 하나인 ‘이민자 멘토 교육’ 운영 사례를 살펴보고 개선 방향을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 S기관에서2022년에 실시한 총 6회의 운영 사례를 살펴보고, 교육 참여자들의 의견을 총괄적으로수렴하였다. 이민자들은 힘들고 외로운 이민 생활을 극복한 멘토들의 이야기를 들으면서공감대를 형성하였고, 멘토들처럼 한국 사회에 성공적으로 안착하려는 강한 동기를 갖게되었다고 보고하였다. 반면에 자신이 필요로 하는 내용에 대한 조언을 얻기 어려운 점, 짧은 교육 시간, 멘토와의 소통 부족 등을 문제점으로 지적하였다. 이에 따라 본고에서는이민자 멘토 교육의 수정 방향으로, 멘티의 요구를 반영하여 프로그램을 설계·운영하여야 하며, 소규모 프로그램으로 운영하여 멘토와 멘티가 활발하게 소통하는 장이 되도록해야 함을 주장하였다. 또한 교육 횟수를 늘리고, 멘토와 멘티가 지속적으로 소통할 수있도록 방안을 마련해야 한다고 보았다. 이러한 교육이 가능하도록 하기 위해서는 좀더 체계적으로 프로그램을 설계하고 운영해야 하며, 관리 감독 체계를 구축할 필요가있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the operational cases of ‘immigrant mentor education, ’which is one of the curriculums of the Korea Immigration & Integration Program (KIIP), and to seek ways to improve this curriculum. This study examined a total of six sessions of the program conducted in 2022 at S Institution in Seoul and comprehensively gathered the opinions of participants. Immigrants reported being able to form a consensus as they listened to the mentors talk about how they overcame the tough and lonely life after immigration and reported finding a strong motivation to settle successfully in Korean society following the example of the mentors. On the other hand, they also pointed out some problems, such as difficulties in obtaining the advice they needed, sessions being short, and lack of communication with the mentors. To revise immigrant mentor education, the researcher argues that the program must be designed and operated based on the needs of mentees and operated on a small scale to allow mentors and mentees the ability to actively communicate with each other. Moreover, the number of sessions needs to be increased and a plan for mentors and mentees to communicate continuously should be devised. To this end, the program must be designed and operated more systematically, and a management and supervision system must also be established.
