본 연구는 집중 모성이데올로기가 어머니의 삶의 만족을 예측하는 과정에서 역할지향성과 삶의 의미의 매개효과를 검증하고 취업여부에 따른 차이를 검증하였다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기 지역에 거주하는 초등학생 이하 자녀를 둔 30～40대 기혼 여성 511명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하고, 구조방정식으로 매개효과의 유의성을 검증한 후 취업여부에 따른 다집단 검증을 실시하였다. 검증결과, 집중 모성이데올로기는 가정지향성을 매개로 할 때 삶의 만족을 정적으로 예측했으나, 직업지향성을 매개로 할 때는 삶의 만족을 예측하지 못했다. 또한 집중 모성이데올로기는 가정지향성과 의미발견을 매개로 삶의 만족을 예측했으나, 직업지향성과 의미발견을 매개로 할 때는 삶의 만족을 예측하지 못했다. 집중 모성이데올로기는 역할지향성(가정, 직업), 의미추구, 의미발견을 순차적으로 매개하여 삶의 만족을 정적으로 예측했다. 마지막으로, 집중 모성이데올로기, 역할지향성, 삶의 의미, 삶의 만족의 관계는 어머니의 취업여부에 따라 차이가 있었다. 본 연구결과는 개인이 의미 부여하는 역할을 추구하고 지향할수록 정신건강에 긍정적인 영향을 준다는 선행연구와 역할정체성 이론에 부합하는 결과다.

This study examines the mediating effects of role orientation and the meaning of life on the process of intensive motherhood ideology, predicting mother’s life satisfaction and the differences in mothers’ employment status. For this purpose, the study conducted an online survey of 511 married women in their 30s and 40s with children younger than elementary school age living in Seoul and in Gyeonggi Province. The significance of the mediating effect was analyzed based on structural equation modeling, then Multi-group analysis was conducted according to employment status. As a results, intensive motherhood ideology predicted life satisfaction positively through family-orientation, but did not predict life satisfaction through job-orientation. In addition, intensive motherhood ideology predicted life satisfaction through family-orientation and meaning of life discovery, but did not predict life satisfaction when it was mediated by job-orientation and meaning of life discovery. Furthermore, intensive motherhood ideology predicted life satisfaction positively by sequentially mediating role-orientation (family, job), the search for meaning in life, and the presence of meaning. Lastly, there was a significant difference in the path depending on the employment status. These results are consistent with previous studies and role identity theory that suggest the more that individuals pursue and aim for a meaningful role, the greater the positive effect on their mental health.
